Carpenters should be proficient in site layout and surveying, building layout, performing all tasks associated with concrete work, wood blocking, backing, specialty items, and all other project specific carpentry tasks as required. 

Skills Required

  • Possess strong carpentry skills for constructing and removing concrete formwork.  Formwork includes job-built forms and/or formwork systems.
  • Setting and tying rebar as applicable, placing WWM, poly and slab preparation.
  • Establish grades/elevations using a builder’s level for concrete work
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level
  • Install metal embeds, bolts, and accessories to be cast into concrete
  • Willingness and ability to perform other carpentry and labor related duties for the company as they arise
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts, backhoes, skid steers, excavators.
  • Understand blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and materials required for form, or framing, construction as well as other carpentry work.
  • Understand and work in accordance with safe work practices, including PPE, tool maintenance, and assistance with the overall site safety and quality programs as required.

Students that intern at Pearce are given an insight to the different career paths in commercial construction. Our goal is to help you find the best path in our industry and to get you involved in both field and office environments. You will be exposed to Pre-Construction, Project Management, and Field Operations. You will do everything from concrete pours with our superintendents to handling bids and contracts with our project managers. We hope to provide a hands-on experience that will have you excited and proud to come back to Pearce every opportunity you have.

 

Intern duties typically include:

  • Assisting project managers and superintendents with coordination between subcontractors, owners, and design team.
  • Assisting in the preparation and execution of job meetings (OAC's, Subcontractor meetings, etc.).
  • Assisting in the preparation and execution of bidding new jobs.
  • Assisting with submittals, RFI's, CMR's, CO's, etc.
  • Assisting with scheduling activities, subcontractors, deliveries, etc.
  • Reading drawings and specifications to understand specific jobs.
  • Marking up drawings.
  • Utilizing technology to aid in the construction process (BlueBeam, iSqFt, Plangrid, etc.)
  • Traveling to jobsites in the greater Huntsville area

Preferred Characteristics:

  • Students pursuing a degree in a construction related field with a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Students currently in their: Freshman/ Sophomore/ Junior/ Senior year
  • Industry related work experience preferred, not required

The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Superintendent and Project Manager in managing and overseeing daily operations on construction sites to ensure that projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. This position plays a key role in coordinating and supervising workforces, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and ensuring that construction activities align with project schedules and specifications. The Assistant Superintendent may also be responsible for monitoring subcontractors, quality control, and reporting on project progress.

Assistant Superintendent Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Utilizing technology to aid in the construction process (BlueBeam, iSqFt, Plangrid, etc.)
  • Exhibit the leadership and responsibility to lead an onsite direct work construction crew.
  • Exhibit leadership and responsibility to assist the management team in planning and integration of subcontractor’s scope of work within the overall project schedule as well as field implementation of subcontractor management.
  • Exhibit leadership and responsibility in teaching and mentoring the onsite construction team.
  • Exhibit strong critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and environments.
  • Ability to navigate construction sites and climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs.
  • Proficient at safely operating site equipment – backhoe, mini ex, skid steer, site dump truck, track hoe, etc.

Preferred Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s degree in building science / construction management or relevant education.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of relative construction experience.

A Pearce Construction Superintendent is capable of overseeing the day-to-day operations of a commercial construction site while also self-performing specific work tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial construction, leadership skills, and the ability to manage construction projects effectively from start to finish. This role will involve direct involvement in construction activities, managing field operations, supervising subcontractors, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

 

Construction Superintendent Responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing the on-site construction team.
  • Coordinating and overseeing all work on site.
  • Attending production meetings.
  • Reviewing and becoming familiar with the schedule and budget and ensuring adherence to these.
  • Ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Placing orders for materials and being responsible for equipment and materials on site.
  • Following the project timeline to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Monitoring and ensuring on-site safety compliance, cleanliness, and orderliness.
  • Maintaining records for site personnel such as daily field reports, field orders and RFIs.
  • Liaising with inspection authorities regarding approvals.
  • Coordination with office project manager and adherence to project schedules.

Construction Superintendent Requirements:

  • Proficient at verbal and written communication with owners, clients, design professionals, project managers, etc.
  • Proficient with the use of email.
  • Proficient with taking and uploading digital photographs.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and build according to drawings, specifications, and other documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
